We are seeing financialization of housing all around the world, not only in our own community.
If people could understand the paradoxes of housing supply, then we could have better, more informed discussions why increasing housing supply does not necessarily equate with affordability.
Here’s a great article that summarizes the issue and what other countries/communities are doing around the world. The report was written in 2018 and you can see how some of these strategies are being implemented in the City of Vancouver.
I think in the case of West Vancouver, we need cross-city collaboration. WVan geographically doesn’t have the space for development or infrastructure.
